Starting prices for 18 GEO tools, the real cost per tracked prompt, where the cheap plans cut corners, and what's worth paying for.

GEO tools cost anything from $0 to "contact sales", and the headline price tells you surprisingly little. Two plans at the same price can track ten times as many answers. We checked the official pricing page of all 18 tools in our directory on 21 October 2026. Here's what the market actually looks like, and how to compare plans without getting caught by the fine print.
The market in four price bands
| Band | Price | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | HubSpot AI Search Grader, AthenaHQ Essential, Contentstack Canoe Free, Profound 7-day trial |
| Budget | $20–$99/mo | Rankscale, Otterly.AI, Ahrefs Brand Radar (custom prompts), Knowatoa, Writesonic, Peec AI Starter |
| Mid-market | $199–$599/mo | Semrush SEO + AI Search, Scrunch Core, Contentstack Canoe Growth, AthenaHQ Starter, Goodie Core, Gauge Growth |
| Enterprise | Custom | Profound, Evertune, Bluefish, plus enterprise tiers of most tools above |
Two services, OGTool and daydream, are done-for-you agencies and don't publish prices at all. They aren't comparable with software subscriptions.
The number that matters: cost per tracked prompt
Most tools sell plans by the number of prompts, the questions they ask AI engines on your behalf. Divide the price by the prompts and the ranking changes a lot. Using each vendor's own published plan sizes:
What stands out:
- The cheapest plan isn't the cheapest per prompt. Otterly.AI Lite ($29 for 15 prompts) works out at about $1.93 per prompt. Its Premium plan ($489 for 400) drops to about $1.22.
- Goodie Pro is the most expensive per prompt at about $4.00 ($999 for 250, billed annually). You pay for its strategy and attribution features, not for volume.
- Writesonic Starter is the cheapest entry per prompt among fixed-prompt plans, at about $1.58 ($79 for 50, billed annually). Note that monthly billing is roughly 20% higher, according to Writesonic's pricing page.
- Peec AI prices in euros: Starter is €85/mo for 50 prompts, about €1.70 per prompt. We couldn't read Peec's page directly at our last check, so we mark that price as unverified.
Per-prompt cost is a fair comparison only when the same number of engines is included. That's the next trap.
Engines are where cheap plans cut corners
A "prompt" checked on three engines is worth less than one checked on nine. From our data:
- Otterly.AI includes ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. Claude, AI Mode and Gemini are paid add-ons from $9 to $439/mo depending on tier.
- Peec AI lets you pick 3 engines per plan. Enterprise goes up to 13 models.
- Scrunch Core ($250/mo) covers 4 engines. Its Enterprise plan covers 9.
- Writesonic self-serve plans cover ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews; Enterprise covers 9 platforms.
- AthenaHQ includes 11 engines even on its $295/mo Starter, and Rankscale covers 10+ engines from its entry plan.
If your buyers use Claude or Perplexity heavily, a cheaper plan that skips them is a false saving.
Credits vs prompts
Two tools don't sell prompts at all:
- AthenaHQ sells credits: 1 credit = 1 AI response. Starter gives 3,600 credits for $295/mo. One prompt checked on 11 engines uses 11 credits, so the same credits go much further if you track fewer engines.
- Rankscale also uses credits. Pro is $99/mo for 1,200 credits, and the ladder continues through Pro+ ($229), Growth ($385) and Enterprise ($780). Rankscale's pricing page lists the credit allowance for each plan.
Credit plans are more flexible but harder to budget. Before buying, work out prompts × engines × runs per month and check it fits.
What you get at each price
$0. A baseline. HubSpot AI Search Grader gives a one-time score; Contentstack Canoe Free repeats 10 questions monthly on ChatGPT and Gemini; AthenaHQ Essential gives 300 credits. Enough to know whether you have a problem. Our free tools list has the details.
$20–$99. Real daily tracking for one brand and a small prompt set. Rankscale (from $20/mo, yearly) and Otterly.AI ($29/mo) are the strongest options here; Knowatoa ($59/mo) and Ahrefs Brand Radar custom prompts (from $50/mo) are alternatives. See the budget picks.
$199–$599. More prompts, more engines, more seats, and usually recommendations on what to fix. Semrush's SEO + AI Search plan ($199/mo) makes sense mainly if you already use Semrush for SEO. Scrunch adds site audits for how AI agents read your pages.
Custom. Profound, Evertune and Bluefish are sold through demos. Profound is the exception with a free 7-day trial (50 prompts daily). Expect SSO, APIs and support, and budget for an annual contract. See enterprise picks.
Hidden costs to check before you buy
- Annual-only prices. Rankscale's lowest price and Goodie's and Writesonic's headline prices assume annual billing. Goodie Core is $295/mo billed annually but $354 billed monthly.
- Engine add-ons. Otterly.AI's extra engines can cost more than the base plan.
- Prompt top-ups. Otterly.AI charges $99/mo per extra 100 prompts; Contentstack Canoe sells a 400-prompt pack for $119.
- Currency and region. Peec AI shows US visitors $95/$245/$495 instead of €85/€205/€425.
- Bundles you don't need. Semrush's AI features sit on top of an SEO subscription; SEO-only starts at $139/mo.
Our verdict
- Most small teams should spend $20–$29 a month, not $200. Rankscale if you want the most engines for the money, Otterly.AI if you want simple prompt-based plans. Our head-to-head comparison helps you choose.
- Agencies should look at cost per prompt at the higher tiers and at white-label options. Our agency picks cover that.
- Don't pay enterprise prices to find out whether you have a problem. Start free, then upgrade once you know which engines and prompts matter.
